The problem

The 2-hour rule
is wrong.

Every sunscreen bottle says "reapply every 2 hours." But your actual protection window depends on UV, your skin tone, and how much you applied — and those variables change constantly.

The rule on the bottle
Reapply every
2 hours.
A one-size-fits-all estimate built for a lab with constant UV 5 and perfect application. That's not your life. At UV 9 on patchy application, you're protected for under an hour. At UV 3, you're good for four.
Oruvia says
Reapply in
22 minutes.
Live UV. Your skin tone. Your SPF. Your application habit. We compute your real window continuously and tell you exactly when it's about to run out — before damage happens.

Protection that thinks
with you.

Morning, noon, and night — Oruvia adapts to where you are, what you're doing, and what the sun is actually doing overhead.

8:12 AM · Morning
You apply. We start the clock.
You put on SPF 30. Oruvia reads live UV, factors in your skin tone and application habit, and builds your personal protection window.

UV spikes. Your window shrinks.
UV climbs to 8.3. Oruvia recalculates silently — your protection is draining faster now. A gentle notification tells you exactly when to reapply.

The core mechanic

An SPF timer
that actually drains.

Most reminder apps set a 2-hour clock and call it a day. Oruvia computes your real exposure rate every 30 seconds — drain speeds up when UV climbs, slows down when clouds roll in, and resets the instant you reapply.

Why Oruvia

Not just another
reminder app.

Weekly insights

See your patterns.

Weekly protection score, UV avoided, and your personal patterns — like the day of the week you most often forget to reapply.

Smart reminders

Timed to UV, not the clock.

Reminders fire when your protection is actually fading — not on a 2-hour alarm. Quiet by default. Loud when it matters.

Location-aware

UV where you are.

Denver at noon is 3× San Francisco. Your timer knows the difference — and adjusts when you move.

Early access feedback

People who get it.

I have melasma and I've been burned too many times trusting generic reminders. Oruvia is the first app that asked about my skin tone and actually did something with the answer.

I run outside in Denver. The UV here is brutal and I've never found an app that takes that seriously. The arc that drains faster in strong sun? That's exactly how I think about it.

The product recommendations finally stopped pushing stuff that leaves a white cast on my skin. It's the only SPF app that seems to understand people with deeper skin tones.

Questions, answered.

The things we get asked most.

When does Oruvia launch?+
We're targeting launch on Google Play first, followed by iOS within 30 days. Join the waitlist and we'll email you the day it's live — waitlist members get free access.
Is Oruvia really free?+
Yes — fully free on launch, with no paywalled features. If we introduce premium features later, everyone on the waitlist is grandfathered in with lifetime free access to core functionality.
How is Oruvia different from my phone's weather app?+
Weather apps show you a UV index number. Oruvia translates that into actionable timing — exactly when you need to reapply based on your skin, your SPF, and how you applied it. A number isn't a reminder.
Do you sell my location data?+
Never. Your location is only used to fetch UV for your current position. We don't log, share, or sell it. Full details will be in our Privacy Policy at launch.
Why the Monk Skin Tone Scale?+
Because the 3-bucket skin-type model misses most of the population. Monk's 10-tone scale is research-backed, inclusive, and actually maps to meaningful differences in burn risk, UV damage patterns, and product white-cast tolerance.
Does this work if I forget to tell the app I reapplied?+
The reminder will keep firing until you confirm. If you miss one, no problem — just tap "I reapplied" whenever you remember and the clock resets. We'll nudge again when it's time.
